 EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE SERVICES - PROFESSIONAL TRAININGS

Training Topics:

  • PREVENTING VIOLENCE IN THE WORKPLACE (2 – 3 hrs)
    Have you ever wondered about an employee’s behavior or a customer’s? Could violence be possible? This workshop focuses on the early warning signs of potential violence. How can managers/supervisors and co-workers successfully intervene and diffuse an angry co-worker.



  • DRUG FREE WORKPLACE (30 – 60 min)
    All organizations that receive grants or Federal funding are mandated to demonstrate that they meet Drug Free Workplace standards that include annual awareness training.



  • EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION (15 – 30 min)
    This is a brief overview and introduction to the Employee Assistance Services benefit. This session describes the program and how to use it. Confidentiality is stressed so that employees won’t fear using the program.

  • SUPERVISORY EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE SERVICES TRAINING
    The goals are to understand more about EAS, learn how to use it as a proactive tool to manage performance problems, discover how to intervene and understand how to carry out supervisory referrals.



  • SEXUAL HARASSMENT (1 - 2 hrs)
    The goal is to review the definition, explore and discuss examples, identify reactions of self and others and learn ways to prevent and handle issues. This training goes beyond employee vs. employee and looks at harassment issues from customers. Discusses important Supreme Court decisions that every workplace should know.



  • SPEAKING UP FOR RESPECT IN THE WORKPLACE (1 - 2 hrs)
    This training moves beyond diversity to promote and speak up for differences in the workplace. The program includes a video and teaches to “M.E.E.T. on Common Ground” or to make time to discuss, explore differences, encourage respect and take responsibility



  • COPING WITH CHANGE IN THE WORKPLACE (1 - 2 hrs)
    The result of change is stress. The goal is to learn about stress and its effects on the body, assist in identifying stressors, discover ways to cope with stress and practice stress management techniques, which are guaranteed to work.



  • ATTITUDE: IT’S ABOUT BALANCE (1 hr)
    Each of us is in a constant state of seeking balance. Change upsets that balance. Your attitude toward change can be managed. This program will teach employees how to adjust and improve their attitude to improve themselves and their workplaces.



  • TEAM BUILDING (1 - 2 hrs)
    The goal is to examine advantages of working in a team, understand team roles, recognize how teams change and develop solutions for solving problems with teams.



  • BASIC COMMUNICATION PRINCIPLES (1 - 2 hrs)
    The goal is to define basic communication principles, learn top ten communication problems and discover better ways to relate to others.



  • RESOLVING CONFLICT IN THE WORKPLACE (2 hrs)
    This training is used for departments that are having problems and difficulty achieving its’ objectives. The goal is to identify problematic areas, discover ways to improve issues and learn communication tips for future conflict resolution.



  • WHALE DONE: THE POWER OF POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS
    (2 hrs)

    This new program helps prevent workplace productivity problems that result from negative attitudes and behavior and assists supervisors/managers in the how-to of motivating employees. This program teaches how to build trust, accentuate the positive and to proactively redirect the energy when mistakes occur.



  • ADOLESCENT DEPRESSION (1 hr)
    The Farmington area Commission on Children, Youth and Families recently produced a video that helps others recognize and deal with the symptoms of adolescent depression. Too often depression leads to suicidal behavior. This video answers questions such as, “What is depression? Is it genetic and what should I do for my teen?”



  • YOU AND YOUR AGING PARENT (2 hrs)
    This session teaches employees about the aging brain, how to talk to aging parents, factors to assess such as safety and cognitive abilities, taking away the car keys, preparing personal affairs and adjusting to a new home or facility.



  • DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE (1 hr)
    Differences need to be acknowledged and respected in our coworkers, customers and vendors. This session highlights how we need to understand different cultures and belief symptoms in order to compete in the current marketplace.



  • CRITICAL INCIDENT STRESS DEBRIEFING (CISD)
    All organizations are at risk of experiencing unexpected and traumatic events. These situations that threaten their well-being may cause employees to have unusually strong emotional reactions and may result in decreased work performance. CISD is a group process that helps employees “normalize and stabilize” after a traumatic event. Employees have an opportunity to discuss facts, voice reactions and learn coping skills that help return employees to normal lives.



  • DEFUSING HOSTILE CUSTOMERS WITHIN A PUBLIC SECTOR ENVIRONMENT (2 hrs)
    This skill based training focuses on excellent techniques of defusing customers in a public sector environment and/or governmental environment. The training covers when to start defusing customers, how to recognize early warning signs of potentially hostile customers, and utilizing a team approach to managing hostile customers, plus much more.

The Presenter:
Kim McAuliffe, the Director of Employee Assistance Services, received her Masters in Social Work from Michigan State University and specialized in Employee Assistance Programs.

Her 20+ years of consulting and training have occurred in a variety of workplace settings, such as:
