OFS SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAM OVERVIEW & PHILOSOPHY
SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT & PREVENTION:  Persons who are addicted to alcohol and other drugs and/or their family members learn about addiction and gain insight into the physical, emotional and social effects of their drug use and abuse.  Programs are also designed to increase functional coping strategies, and to provide support that promotes abstinence and recovery.  A continuum of care consisting of individual, family and group education/therapy is available for recovery planning and relapse prevention.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAMS FOR HIGH-RISK CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS...
CHAMPS (Children Having and Maintaining Positive Self-Esteem):  Children (ages 7-10) from Pontiac elementary schools participate in group education during after-school hours to increase their self-esteem, learn the negative effects of alcohol and other drugs, and learn to make healthy choices in their lives.

Child and Adolescent Life Skills Training:  OFS provides life skills training for Farmington Hills middle school students and youth at Oakland County Children's Village.  Participants learn about substance abuse prevention and they address issues related to peer pressure, self esteem, problem solving, attitudes and feelings.
