OFS SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAM OVERVIEW &
PHILOSOPHY
|

SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT & PREVENTION: Persons who are
addicted to alcohol and other drugs and/or their family members learn about
addiction and gain insight into the physical, emotional and social effects of their
drug use and abuse. Programs are also designed to increase functional coping
strategies, and to provide support that promotes abstinence and recovery.
A continuum of care consisting of individual, family and group education/therapy
is available for recovery planning and relapse prevention.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAMS FOR
HIGH-RISK CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS...
|
CHAMPS (Children Having and Maintaining Positive Self-Esteem):
Children (ages 7-10) from Pontiac elementary schools participate
in group education during after-school hours to increase their
self-esteem, learn the negative effects of alcohol and other
drugs, and learn to make healthy choices in their lives.
Child and Adolescent Life Skills Training: OFS
provides life skills training for Farmington Hills middle school
students and youth at Oakland County Children's Village.
Participants learn about substance abuse prevention and they
address issues related to peer pressure, self esteem, problem
solving, attitudes and feelings.
