MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT OVERVIEW AND PHILOSOPHY

Oakland Family Services provides mental health treatment services to people of all ages in overcoming problems related to self, family, work and school.

Mild to severe symptoms affect the person’s ability to function in one or more areas of his or her life.  Participants gain insight, skills, and a better understanding of the issues, and they learn new coping strategies that lead to improved mental health. 

Services are offered to individuals, families and groups. Culturally sensitive treatment, including bilingual service, is provided by licensed and certified mental health professionals.  Treatment is also provided to elderly residents of nursing homes who evidence dementia and other mental health problems.

Oakland Family Services follows the Best Practice Clinical Guidelines as established by the Alliance for Children and Families.  These guidelines specify the most effective interventions and modalities for a given mental health issue.

PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATION AND MEDICATION REVIEW

Psychiatric evaluation and medication reviews are available, as needed, to individuals receiving mental health treatment with a therapist at Oakland Family Services.  Evaluation and diagnosis by Board-Certified Psychiatrists assist in treatment planning to alleviate psychiatric symptoms and improve coping.  Medication is prescribed in situations in which the person will benefit. 

Ongoing review of the effects of medication and the appropriateness of continuing the medication regimen is provided by the psychiatrist in collaboration with assigned therapists.  Geriatric assessments and medication reviews are provided to nursing homes residents who evidence dementia and other mental health problems. 

Most insurances are accepted.  A sliding fee scale is available for those who qualify.
