Research has shown that birth to three years is a very important period in the
life of a child, while at the same time, an extremely stressful time for a
parent.
Oakland Family Services' Infant Mental Health Program is a professional counseling service for families
experiencing a variety of difficulties from pregnancy through a child's third
year.

INFANT MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM SERVICES
INCLUDE:

- Assessment
- Infant-Parent Psychotherapy
- Developmental Education and Guidance
- Advocacy and Help with Problem Solving
- Crisis Intervention
- Videotape Coaching
Assistance is offered in a non-intrusive, non-judgmental way that respects
parental feelings while keeping the baby at the center of treatment. |

WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM INFANT MENTAL
HEALTH SERVICES? |
Postpartum Depression
Parents with past and/or current factors in their lives that may affect their
ability to parent. Factors may include substance abuse, mental illness, eating
disorders, depression, chronic illness, or being a single parent.
Families in which there is a child with special needs, such as speech or
language delay, developmental delay, low birth weight, chronic illness, or other needs.
Families with previous parental loss.
Parents who have received "less than adequate parenting", and as
children were subject to physical or sexual abuse, neglect or abandonment.
Families in which there has been an extended separation of parent and child
due to illness, hospitalization or custody issues.
