Recognizing the dramatically increasing population of Older adults, Oakland Family
Services is
committed to providing diverse individual and group services for Older Adult
clients and their families.
In addition to addressing crisis intervention, we also
provide the following: psychiatric evaluation and medical assessment; early
intervention for clients diagnosed with dementia; and counseling
for depression, grief and loss, strained family relationships, retirement and
other life changes. Services can be provided in nursing homes, assisted
livings, retirement communities or, in the home.
The Older Adult Specialty In-home Services (OASIS) program provides
counseling services to homebound older adults (60+) living in Oakland County
in the privacy of their own home. This program is funded by the Department
of Health and Human Services and is at no cost to the service recipients.
This program is available to older adult or their caregivers when they have
a concern about depression, anxiety or substance misuse.
Oakland Family Services' professionals provide training
for caregivers, assist with staff development for nursing homes, and offer
public educational presentations about the aging population. The
Older Adult and Caregiver Services team is comprised of psychologists, psychiatric nurses
trained in gerontology, and masters-prepared, certified social workers who specialize
in gerontology, psychiatry, substance abuse and the behavioral management of
dementia clients.
