MSU Global Day of Service volunteers make a difference at Children's Learning Center

When the preschoolers at Oakland Family Services' Children's Learning Center in Pontiac arrived at school last week, they found that their classrooms and natural playground had all been improved thanks to a local alumni group.

More than 20 MSU Alumni volunteers spent April 21 deep cleaning the classroom at the Children’s Learning Center in Pontiac or sprucing up the natural playground as part of Michigan State University’s Global Day of Service.

For the second consecutive year, the MSU EMBA Alumni Association sponsored a service project at Oakland Family Services.

“The MSU Global Day of Service is designed to show the world the extraordinary impact Spartans can make in a single day,” said organizer Kendra Corman, communications chair of the EMBA Alumni Association. “The programs and services offered by Oakland Family Services are extraordinary, and we are so happy to help with the mission. We are looking forward to seeing what is needed next year.”

Volunteers spread 12 yards of mulch, prepped the garden for planting, steam cleaned the classroom carpet and washed toys. To keep the volunteers fueled, Daddy's Doughnuts donated five dozen donuts.
