Children’s Therapeutic Family Care program, bringing Treatment Foster Care Oregon model to Oakland County
There is a new addition at Oakland Family Services - Children’s Therapeutic Family Care (CTFC) program, a community-based initiative designed to help children with complex emotional and behavioral needs thrive in a family setting versus institutional or residential care.
CTFC provides intensive therapeutic support for youth ages 7-11 who benefit from structured, therapeutic support in a natural home environment. Each child is matched with a therapeutic parent who is trained to provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive family setting that aligns with the child’s treatment goals. These caregivers closely collaborate with clinical teams to meet treatment goals and help each child heal, grow, and successfully transition to permanent family placement.
“At Oakland Family Services, we are always seeking innovative ways to meet the evolving needs of children and families in our community,” said Jaimie Clayton, president and CEO of Oakland Family Services. “CTFC allows us to strengthen family bonds, reduce the need for institutional care, and help children build the resilience and skills they need to succeed.”
The CTFC is based on the Treat Foster Care Oregon (TFCO) model and is collaborating closely with both the TFCO team and the State of Michigan to implement the program.
TFCO has been proven nationwide to:
Reduce youth violence and delinquency
Prevent family disruption and teen pregnancy
Improve family relationships and school engagement
No previous foster care or social work experience is required to become a therapeutic parent, only compassion, patience, and a commitment to helping children reach their full potential.
Therapeutic parents receive comprehensive support, including:
Specialized training and ongoing education
Daily communication and monitoring
Weekly group sessions and 24/7 coaching
Monthly compensation
