Day One is for You

Day One is for you. It’s for the moment you decide you’re ready for help, for the first step you take toward healing, and for every step after.

At Oakland Family Services, we believe that every person deserves a place where they can feel safe, supported, and heard. That’s what our Day One program is designed to be: a therapy service for any individual, no matter where you are in your journey.

Day One offers caring, confidential, research-based mental health and substance use disorder therapy for ages four and older. Our team of master’s-prepared therapists, trained in both mental health and substance use disorders, is here to walk alongside you. Whether you are navigating depression, managing anxiety, recovering from trauma, or seeking freedom from substance use, we meet you where you are and help create a personalized plan for moving forward.

Clients often tell us how different services at Oakland Family Services feel:

“Every employee I have come in contact with has given the impression that they truly want to help in any way they can.”

That’s because at the heart of our work is a trauma-informed approach. We want every interaction, every space, and every session to feel safe and comfortable for you! We also believe therapy shouldn’t happen in isolation. With your permission, we can coordinate with your doctor or other professionals, such as parole officers or juvenile drug court officials. You’ll also have access to Oakland Family Services’ broader network of support, from adoption and foster care to family programs and more. Outside our walls, we connect clients with community resources like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), housing support, food assistance, job services, and medication-assisted treatment programs.

Day One is flexible to your needs. We offer both in-person and virtual options, as well as individual and group therapy. For those who require additional support, our Pontiac location offers convenient access to medical care. And because we believe cost should never be a barrier, Day One accepts most insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and offers a sliding fee scale if needed.

Oakland Family Services and our programs are a place where clients not only find help, but community:

“Oakland Family Services creates a sense of community. They make an effort to connect you with every resource you could need, even if it isn’t one they provide. They just want to see you thrive.”

Within Day One, we offer four specialized programs to meet unique needs:

  • Mental Health Treatment: Counseling and psychiatric services for conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and more.

  • Substance Use Disorder Treatment: Outpatient and intensive outpatient services with therapy, education, recovery coaches, and coping strategies.

  • Adolescent Substance Use Disorder Treatment: Individualized care for teens misusing drugs or alcohol, with support for families as well.

  • Prism: Transformative Recovery for Women: A safe space for women, including those who are parenting or pregnant, to heal from trauma and substance use. Prism even offers on-site childcare and transportation to remove barriers to care.

No matter your story, Day One is for you. It’s for the parent holding everything together but quietly struggling. It’s for the teen overwhelmed by peer pressure. It’s for the woman navigating recovery while raising a child. It’s for the person living with grief or anxiety or trauma who wants to feel whole again.

Because at Day One, our commitment is simple: We’re here every day, every step of the way.
