Oakland Family Services is among the first companies to ever be named a National Top Workplace!

The 2021 National Top Workplace award comes about two months after the agency was named as one of Michigan’s Top Workplaces for seven consecutive years. Oakland Family Services ranks 12th amongst midsize Michigan companies recognized as a Detroit Free Press Top Workplace and is one of only two nonprofit family agencies to be ranked in the top 20.

“It’s very rare for a nonprofit to be recognized in these categories,” Oakland Family Services President & CEO Jaimie Clayton told employees during a recent staff meeting on Zoom.

“It makes me feel incredible and says more and more about all of you. The survey reflects how you feel about the agency, your own work, leadership, our mission and the culture.”

Top Workplace rankings are determined based on employee feedback to a survey that focuses on workplace culture, pay, benefits, leadership, and what employees like or dislike about their jobs. Of 756 midsize companies surveyed, 326 were named National Top Workplaces.

In addition to receiving National Top Workplace status, Oakland Family Services received a Nonprofit Industry Award and was recognized for the following Culture Excellence Awards: Clued-in Leaders, Communication, Innovation and Top Leaders.

Employees expressed their enthusiasm for the National Top Workplace award during the staff meeting.

“This is one agency that continuously reinvents itself,” said Teri Dorta, Early Childhood Services manager at Oakland Family Services. “It is always moving forward, and that’s been exciting to me. We all had a part putting together our cultural value statements. We are invested in this agency, its heart and soul. When I see we get to this level, it is very emotional and touching, and I am super proud to be a part of this agency.”

Tiffaney Rohen, substitute food service specialist and former lead preschool teacher, was excited to hear the news.

“I’m so proud to be a part of this,” she said. “It’s huge. It’s something that gives me a lot of personal satisfaction that I work for a company that is this successful.”

The Top Workplaces survey is distributed by Energage, a Philadelphia-based employee research and culture technology firm that performs Top Workplace surveys across the U.S. and analyzes results to determine companies’ rankings.

“We want the best for all our employees,” Vice President of Employee Engagement and Organizational Development Julie Mison told employees. “We recognize your commitment and how hard all of you work, and we know that translates into the work that you do for those we serve. We’re so happy.”
